State Rep. Doug Wozniak, of Shelby Township, recognizes the late Chief Fred Posavetz of the Clinton Township Police Department at the state Capitol on Sept. 9. Wozniak participated in the annual Michigan House of Representatives ceremony commemorating the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
State Rep. Doug Wozniak this week voted in support of a supplemental spending plan that includes $152 million to construct two new runways at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, a project aimed at preparing the installation for its next fighter mission and reinforcing its long-term role in Michigan’s defense network.
The funding supports infrastructure improvements necessary for Selfridge to receive a new fleet of F-15EX fighter aircraft, which will replace the retiring A-10 aircraft currently stationed at the base. In April 2025, President Donald Trump announced that Selfridge would receive 21 F-15EX fighters, along with previously approved KC-46A refueling tankers.
“Selfridge has served our country and our community for generations,” said Wozniak, R-Shelby Township. “Ensuring the base is ready for its next mission protects local jobs, strengthens our national defense, and keeps Michigan playing a critical role in supporting our military.”
Wozniak noted that Selfridge supports roughly 5,000 jobs and about 4,000 military families across multiple branches of service. The base also anchors a regional defense corridor responsible for nearly $1 billion in economic activity in Macomb County each year.
“Selfridge is not just a military installation. It is a major economic driver for Macomb County and a pillar of our local communities,” Wozniak said. “This investment helps secure the base’s future and ensures the families and businesses that depend on it can continue to thrive.”
