Lansing, MI – State Rep. Pauline Wendzel issued the following response after Governor Whitmer’s State of the State address:
“You’d think after serving in the majority for the past year, Democrats would figure out that governing is more than just reciting poll-tested talking points that resonate with national Democrat primary voters. The governor’s entire speech was gaslighting Michigan residents into thinking she actually has a plan for long-term growth and making life more affordable for our residents.”
Rep. Wendzel continued, “Republicans in the last budget cycle put forward one billion dollars to go towards fixing local roads and bridges; Democrats rejected it. Republicans have proposed letting people keep more of their hard-earned money to weather Bidenomics; Democrats fought to raise your taxes and are building their budget around a permanent increase. Republicans have supported high standards in our classrooms and involving parents in the education of their children; Democrats have removed metrics and bowed to union bosses. Most importantly, Republicans have been focused on solving our state’s energy needs by strengthening our grid and embracing an all-of-the-above energy strategy; Democrats passed a California-style Green New Deal that will double utility bills for Michigan families. It’s a clear picture – Republicans are proposing legislation to make life better for our residents and stem the tide of population loss; Democrats are focused on growing government so it can intrude more and more into your family’s life.”
Rep. Wendzel concluded, “The state of our state is bleak. Michigan is falling further and further behind while Legislative Democrats support the Governor’s shadow campaign against Gavin Newsom at the expense of Michigan residents. Far-left tax and spend policies are killing our state, but from what I’ve heard tonight, Democrats have no intention of backtracking on their short-sighted, big-government policies.”
