State Rep. David Martin welcomed Lt. Todd Gilbert of the Grand Blanc Township Police Department at the Michigan State Capitol for a special 9/11 remembrance ceremony recognizing the nearly 3,000 Americans who were killed on Sept. 11, 2001, and honoring the police officers, firefighters and first responders who put their lives on the line to help others that day.
“Sept. 11 is a day our nation will never forget,” Martin said. “It was an honor to have Lt. Gilbert join me as we remembered the innocent lives lost that day and paid tribute to the first responders who ran toward danger when others were running to safety. Their courage and sacrifice represent the very best of America.”
Martin said having a local law enforcement officer join him for the ceremony was a fitting reminder of the men and women who continue to put on the uniform each day to protect their neighbors and communities.
“More than two decades later, we continue to honor those we lost by remembering their stories, supporting those who serve and never taking for granted the freedoms and security we enjoy as Americans,” Martin said.
