State Rep. Jaime Greene today applauded the Senate vote approving supplemental funding for Selfridge Air National Guard Base.

“This is a very important issue to me,” said Greene (R-Richmond). “The people in our community know just how important Selfridge Air National Guard Base is to Macomb County, but the base is crucial to Michigan’s position in the global economy as well. I worked with House Republicans to advance this issue in March because we could not afford to put this funding at risk. I’m proud to have taken action, and I’m glad the Senate was able to finally see this through. Democrats should never have been playing games with this funding, but now the games are done.”

The $152 million supplemental funding will be used to construct new runways in preparation for 21 new F-15EX Eagle II fighter jets that are scheduled to arrive in 2028.

“The maintenance of Selfridge Air National Guard Base is important for our national security, but it’s also a crucial part of our local economy,” Greene said. “We’re talking about careers and livelihoods. We should never put Michigan’s economic growth at risk. Because of this vote, we can support our state economy while ensuring that the United States continues to have the most powerful military in the world.”

The bill now heads to the governor for final approval.
